Southwest Resistance to FTAA

This is a call to people and groups in the Arizona/Sonora and broader SW region to participate in formulating resistance to the Free Trade Area of the Americas. Called "NAFTA on steroids," the FTAA plans on expanding across the entire Western hemisphere the model of coporate dominance over the integrity of the natural environment and sovereignty of people.

While thousands gather to share information and protest at the "Summit of the Americas" in Quebec City, Canada this April, solidarity actions will happen concurrently on North American borders and in cities across the Western hemisphere. Join human rights, environmental, labor, religious, anarchist and other activists in discussing what to do about it in our region, from education and outreach to protests and direct action.

Groups and individuals from Nogales, Tucson, Phoenix, Prescott, Flagstaff, and other parts of Arizona and Sonora are invited to a community meeting on Sunday, February 4th, 3 pm at the Armory Park Senior Center, adjacent to Armory Park at 6th Ave and 12th St in downtown Tucson. For more info, please call Alicia at or email . Representatives from groups planning action for the FTAA in April in other regions such as New Mexico, Texas, and California are also encouraged to attend. Get in touch for possible housing arrangements.

The FTAA is the biggest multilateral free-trade agreement yet to hit the Americas, and will have devastating effects on national and indigenous sovereignty, environmental and labor standards, with deep repercussions in many other areas. It must be stopped. For more background, visit www.ariona.indymedia.org and www.cmaq.net.

Please forward and publish this message widely.

in solidarity,
Harmonize This!

Hasta la victoria siempre!
