San Francisco:
Resist the FTAA In Solidarity with the Zapatista March on Mexcio
City, Friday Feb. 23, 2001
4:30: Declaration of Resistance, Street Theater,
Spoken Word, Music.....
Senator Feinstein's office, Market at Post/2nd St., SF.
5:30: PROCESSION to the Mexican Consulate, Flood
Building, Market near Powell.
This is the kick-off event of Bay Area resistance
to the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA).
From the folks who brought us NAFTA and the
WTO, the FTAA is the global economic system's latest strategy
to further social and ecological destruction in pursuit of greater
profit and power. The FTAA poses an unprecedented threat to working
people, the environment, students and teachers, public health,
immigrants, farmers, indigenous peoples, and communities in North,
South and Central America, Canada, and the Caribbean.
* A civil society delegation to the offices
of Senators Boxer and Feinstein will demand they publicly oppose
the FTAA and Fast Track Legislation. Join us in meeting with Feinstein's
aide from 4:30 to 5:30 PM.
* On February 25 the representatives of the
of the Zapatistas will come down from themountains of Chiapas
and march on Mexico City. No one knows what will happen, but Mexico
will never be the same - we shouldn't be either. We will march
to the Mexican consulate to support their just demands for peace
and autonomy.
Another world is possible and a global movement
is rising up to make it happen!
Bay Area Coalition to Stop the FTAA and the
San Francisco Zapatista Committee.
